Science journalism,
taught through doing
Treatsugarmodel is a practice-first learning platform built around one idea: that science communicators get better by working through real assignments, not by watching slides. Every workshop here is structured around action - writing, presenting, and iterating on feedback from people who actually work in the field.

Where the platform came from
The people who built Treatsugarmodel spent years watching science graduates struggle to translate their expertise into clear, compelling public communication. The gap wasn't knowledge - it was practice. Most training programmes handed participants a style guide and called it done. Treatsugarmodel was set up in 2019 to fix that gap with structured, assignment-based workshops that mirror real editorial environments.
Television and digital media became a focus early on, partly because the demand was obvious. Researchers who could stand in front of a camera and explain a complex finding without losing the audience were genuinely rare. Our TV presenter training grew out of that observation - built around short assignment cycles where participants draft a piece-to-camera script, record it, and receive line-by-line feedback before the next session.
What the programme actually covers
The television presenter course at Treatsugarmodel is not a single workshop - it is a sequence of connected exercises that build on each other. Participants start with written scripts for short explainer segments, move into recorded delivery with technical feedback on pacing and eye contact, and finish with a peer-reviewed broadcast piece. The same structure applies across our written journalism and podcast modules, adapted to the medium.

What we hold to in practice
- Assignments before explanations - participants encounter the problem first
- Feedback tied to specific lines, not general impressions
- Multilingual support built into the platform, not added as an afterthought
- Instructors who currently work in science media, not only teach it
